Editorial: A defining moment in the nation's future

The UAE is passing through an important stage as the Federal National Council (FNC) elections draw closer. This is without a doubt, a defining moment as it is a path that would facilitate the nation to lead into the future. It is the responsibility of everyone to make it a transition of success.

President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has called for an active participation from voters on the Electoral College. It is crucial that everyone casts their vote with the choice being the candidate who will best enable the FNC to move forward and fulfil its long-term plans.

"On this important national occasion, I call upon my sons and daughters, the members of electoral bodies, to participate actively in the elections so that we can achieve real participation. We have to walk with a clear vision to empower the FNC," Shaikh Khalifa said.
It is therefore important that voters recognise the importance of this moment since it is towards an enhanced role in decision-making. Hence, the attitude of voters as much as every single Emirati towards the upcoming elections would be the determining factor in how the FNC shapes its character in the future.

In addition, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, also defined the role of the FNC. "We consider the FNC a free national platform which has immunity as a legislative authority that supports national decision-making, offers sound advice and opinion to the government in tackling internal and external issues. Furthermore, the house acts as one of key channels for shaping the future of the country and its promising generations."

And it is because of this futuristic outlook that the current opportunity should be taken responsibly where every voter is accounted for.
