UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum launched the 'Mohammed bin Rashid Arabic Language Award' on 7 May 2014.
The Award aims to encourage exceptinal contributions in serving the Arabic language and to honour its patrons besides highlighting successful and outstanding experiences in disseminating and educating the Arabic language.
Mohammad bin Rashid Arabic Language Award includes five branches, whereby outstanding initiatives will be honoured along with the exceptional contributions to support the Arabic language in the areas of education, media, Arabisation, technology, preservation and dissemination of the Arab linguistic heritage.
The award includes 10 categories to be honoured on an annual basis:
1- Education
- Higher Education Category: Recognises best projects or programmes championed by higher education institutions to encourage the use of the Arabic language in universities and colleges.
- General Education: Recognises best (initiative/project/programme) that advances the education of the Arabic language through innovative methods, skill development, performance measurements, etc...
- Arabic as a Second Language (ASL): Recognises best (initiatives/centres/programmes) that focuses on teaching Arabic to non-Arabic speakers.
- Reading: Recognises best initiatives that encourages reading in Arabic and assists in spreading awareness on the importance of reading.
2- Technology
-Smart Application: Recognises the best smart application for teaching the Arabic language on mobile devices.
- Website: Recognises the best website Arabic language website in terms of content quality, creativity and innovation.
3-Media
- Media Programme: Recognises best media programme designed and implemented to disseminate Arabic language culture and facilitate teaching Arabic for all.
- Social Media: Recognises best initiative that utilises social media channels to encourage the use of Arabic language.
4- Arabisation
- Arabisation: Recognises best initiative or project to Arabise (books/terms/concepts/content) that best serve Arab societies in the fields of higher education, public education or culture in general.
5- Heritage
- Linguistic Heritage: Recognises best initiative to preserve the Arabic linguistic heritage through verification and reproduction of renowned works of famous Arab linguists.
