Mohammed bin Rashid honors winner of Global Teacher Prize
Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum honored today the winner of the Global Teacher Prize, Andria Zafirakou from UK.
The announcement was made at a glittering awards ceremony hosted by Trevor Noah held at The Atlantis, The Palm, marking the climax of the $1 million Global Teacher Prize.
Andria Zafirakou, an art and textiles teacher from Alperton Community School, Brent, London, has been named as the winner of the Varkey Foundation Global Teacher Prize 2018. This is the fourth year of the award, an initiative of the non-profit Varkey Foundation, which also launched the annual GESF six years ago.
The ceremony was attended by Minister of Tolerance HH Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and The Future H.E. Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, Cabinet Member and Minister of State for International Cooperation H.E. Reem Bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for Public Education H.E. Jameela Salem Al Muhairi, and Director- General of the Department of Protocol and Hospitality in Dubai H.E. Khalifa Saeed Suleiman. UAE-based philanthropist and educationist Sunny Varkey is the founder of the foundation also attended the ceremony.
